AI is advancing faster than almost any technology before it, but with that progress comes a key question: how can organizations be sure the systems they are developing are safe for employees to use and rely on?

Why These Risks Must Be Addressed Before Deployment

Building safeguards into systems during development is far more effective than retrofitting them once a system reaches end-users – not to mention less costly. A weakness left unaddressed can be exploited the moment a model goes live. A successful AI cyberattack such as data poisoning or prompt injection, for instance, can corrupt a model’s behavior or extract confidential data without immediate detection.

Designing for safety early also makes systems easier to govern in production. Continuous AI monitoring gives teams real-time visibility into how models behave once deployed, helping them catch unexpected outputs, bias or misuse before these escalate. Oversight should therefore be planned from the outset, not bolted on at the end.

AI offers enormous potential, but overly cautious development risks losing valuable benefits and falling behind competitors. The goal is to find a balance between advanced capabilities and strong protections from the start.
